But There’s Still Something Missing…

It starts almost from childhood, the search for that something. But all our searches have or will come to a dead end because that something we are searching for has already been prepared for us by God. It can never be found here, everything else is a cheap imitation.
Here on earth, the choices are fairly limited so we tend to gravitate toward money or relationships or travel to fill the void. Sadly, many of us become prisoners to all kinds of addictions in our search.
Mostly, we are unaware of the source of the choices that we have, but many of us know that much of what draws us and what we chase after has a darkness about them. That’s because the source of all these things are satan. These things are his counterfeit of what God has for us (1 John 2:16-17).
For the time being, satan has been holding captive the earth and all its inhabitants (1 John 5:19). Just like any prison, the prisoners are limited to what they can have. That is why we can never be satisfied and why we are unable to fill the spiritual hunger that is inside us. Until we can escape satan’s prison into God’s kingdom and freedom (Colossians 1:13) we will never find rest for our souls. We are doomed to repeat the never ending cycle of chasing after something, becoming dissatisfied, and then chasing after the next thing.
Before the fall of mankind, man’s relationship with God was pure and open. Everything about God was easily seen (Romans 1:20). But after the fall, a sort of death and blindness came into man and we could no longer know God, we were completely cut off. Satan has been doing his best to keep us blind to God and what He has for us (2 Corinthians 4:4).
But if satan has us under his thumb and held captive here how can we know anything about God much less know anything about what He has prepared for us?
1 Corinthians 2:9-10 says, no one has seen or heard or even imagined what God has prepared for us. The very next sentence says that God reveals it to us by His Spirit so there is a way to know what God has prepared for us. That is the key for us, the only way to escape satan’s deception and to know God and what He has for us is to be inwardly, spiritually renewed so that God can once again speak to us and show us all He has for us (Titus 3:5; Ephesians 1:18).
And God has done just that. He has made a way for us to be made new. Jesus came to destroy the works of satan and He also came to give each one of us a new spiritual life (Romans 6:23), to be reborn so our relationship with God can be restored (Romans 5:8-11, Luke 4:18). This is the only way for us to escape satan’s grip and the deception he inflicts on us, and to have our eyes opened to what God has lovingly prepared for us. This new life that Jesus gives doesn’t stop at just knowing what God feely gives us. It makes our whole relationship with God restored so He becomes a Father to us (Romans 8:15-17).
God has prepared everything for us. It’s all free — He has purchased you at a great cost (1 Peter 2:24).
The great leap is, will you believe and ask Him? (Romans 10:13)
